Yi Drawing Maters

This is my homework for this week... the face part is really hard for me...and I've tried my best...

  1. Yi, the torso is GREAT! You should be proud.
    1.
The face, you should do some PATTERN GESTURES (off to the side or on another sheet) where you see the face as LIGHT and DARK patterns and you use the pencil VERY LIGHTLY at the beginning (slowly building up to DARKER PARTS), DON'T think words (eyes, lips, nose..) think- sharp shape into smooth soft area, EDGE that is shape becomes LINE, etc... You will get it right.
    2. The legs: you need to PULL THE KNEES UP! So that the legs appear to COME FORWARD (This will make them look SHORTER on PAPER.)

    Be well Tom

  2. Since Mr. Bosket said more than I can, I'll just try to point out the anatomical differences.

    - Right upper leg of the woman has a pretty angular curve, yours is silk smooth,

    - The connecting point of right leg has two creases, in your copy it has three,

    - The dip of woman's left elbow isn't present

    - the cloth woman is sitting doesn't have the second crease at the right (the crease which is creating a V with shadow)

but definitely much better than anything I could draw. I'm going to redo mine..
