Class this week and LINK

Howdy all, (read to the end!)

INSPIRATIONS:

Here is a great link to Sketchbooks!

http://www.exhibit905.info/throughthesketchbook/titlesketchbook.htm

"Like being caught up in the rhythm of a dance or a jazz ensemble, or mesmerized by the intonations of a poetic reading, the act of drawing dismantles consciousness and plunges the self into a zone of experience or sensation liberated from the closures of representation and open to the free play of possibilities. Thus the drawing is the expression of this libidinal movement, free of signification and interpretation."

"Observation and Experience lead to Discovery."

NOTES:

A. "The right side of your brain is where all your creative endeavors begin. You will access this realm through extended exposure to the unknown, willingness to change, rapid, impulsive, erratic, complex patterns and behaviors (in general but also of physically scanning with your eyes and hand)."

B. "Analysis about what is presently observed, logic, as well as clear and direct thinking will lead to the clarification of preconceived ideas."

Wonder...why you choose one method over the other and how they serve your intended purpose. What part of your personal work benefits from A and what part from B. In my experience of teaching, both are VERY important, but most students believe B has a greater impact on their ability to communicate what they want to say. But I also know that A is where it begins, again and again, and that this is the place that most students realize something NEW and EXCITING! Then, when they need A they can transfer their new knowledge over to where it can be implemented. I also know that you all have MUCH more of an EXPERIENCE when you are in A, even if it is a challenge!!!

CLASS THIS WEEK:

We will be working on refining the basic tools of drawing this week in view of your personal work. Bring all the traditional materials and any ones you want to explore- especially if they relate to your personal work. We will be working in class on refining your expression through these materials.

I will be grading how well you followed the Portrait requirements (so the deeper you go into the A here, the better!) and how well you have refined the Personal work Material vision (this will involve at least one very refined drawing!).

Bon Voyage! Have a great next few days wrapping up the work!

Tom
